So, nowadays we tend to live on a consumerist society where people buy a tone of stuff they don't need and end up with a house full of useless stuff.
For the past year or so I've been quite interest in "Minimalist living", and yes, I'm aware it's also becoming a trend.

I'd like to know your opinion about it. If you like it or not, if you think it has more advantages than disadvantages, and if in general, it can lead to better life quality.

Well it highly depends whether you can condition yourself to that lifestyle. It's not just about buying "less" things it's about whether or not you will be satisfied . Also i think if you are 'trying' to lead a minimalist life instead of simply leading one without giving much of a shit whether it appeal's to you or not is the only way to really do so.

They say that luxuries are nice
They're right

Just one must also have
A luxurious mind

I also like lots of old things/stuff stacked on top of them aesthetic which is like the opposite of minimalism lol

I feel the same way. In the past people seemed happier with less things and one thing I hate about America/the West nowadays is how obsessed people are with money/"things"/social status.

I think social status was always a thing. You always had social hierarchies, but yeap, totally agree with you.
I only realised it last year though. We have too much stuff of the same stuff. Not only it's worse for organisation, it's also a waste of time/money. Efficiency is key.

I prefer utility over minimalism. If I can have something, I'd rather it benefit me in more ways than one since even if it's ugly it to me is still worth the money. I prefer desk plants over figures for example since both are cheap but the plants offer me cleaner air, natural organic garbage disposal, etc

I think there are a lot of great ideas to take from minimalism, but I couldn't be a minimalist myself. A great quote from a YouTuber I like (Jenny Mustard) is, "Keep only things you know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." (It may not be exactly the quote, but it's pretty close.) I've really kept that in mind while going through a "stuff purge" recently, and I recently made over $500 selling things on Craigslist, and I donated several bags and boxes more. Now I keep a box in my closet to toss things into when I decide that they don't have a place in my home anymore, and I take it to Goodwill when it's full.

My current goal is for everything in my home to have a specific place that it goes; no junk drawers. I'm not super tidy right now, but I'm trying to own a low enough amount of things where nothing gets easily lost because there is nothing for it to be piled under. All books go on shelves, all paperwork goes in a file cabinet, all art supplies go on a shelf specifically for that purpose, and no products under the bathroom sink that don't actually get used.

I don't think everyone needs to be this way, though. I just get stressed out by visual clutter, so owning less things helps with this. I own A LOT of things, still, so I'm NOT a minimalist, but I probably own about half what i did before I started by "stuff purge."

I've never really gotten used to expressing myself through my belongings. I still don't have enough room to really show that. So, for most of my life, I've been just using the bare minimum. I wouldn't hang anything on my wall except for goals, and I would have a desk, an end table, bed, chair, and dresser. Nothing else really. No colorful paints. Nothing... except my computer. I think it's time for me to get out of living with the minimum. I've been looking forward to getting my own place, so I'll break out of the simple decor.

I watched two of her videos once xD

I really like to keep things organised and clean, so my next step will be start using ebooks instead of buying books. Not only cheaper, but it will also be easier to move to another place if I need to.

I like minimalism as a counterweight to consumerism. "Don't buy useless crap," is solid advice. I don't like minimalism as an aesthetic or lifestyle/philosophy. Granted, I haven't read many serious or academic defences of minimalism, but the ones I have read have been unconvincing. Less stuff isn't necessarily more beautiful and I don't buy the claims around less stuff making you happier, less anxious, and whatever else.

Also, consumerism is just one form of decadence. A minimalist can engage in any amount of decadence in other forms, like spending too much money eating out or travelling.

we only buy random crap because usually other people have it, or we think we really need it. we don't usually ever need it..

I like the idea of living my own version of minimalism, I don't think I can be one of those people with a 20 piece wardrobe though. But I'm trying to be more conscious of what I buy and honestly purging feels great!

yeah, it bothers me when people are like, "i just couldn't say no" or "it's stress relieving." like learn to control yourself and go on a damn walk.

Considering the amount of media I've collected along with this soul-sucking PC I ain't living that life. I don't pine for more though, so that's one thing. I could definitely live w/o any of this bullshit in some shack/mobile-home and I'd probably be more fulfilled... but I'm not quite there yet.

I agree with a majority of your points. I think some minimalists choose to spend more on experiences than things, hence the traveling, for instance. As for the "less stuff makes you happier and less anxious," I can't say it's a measurable amount, but in general I feel more focused after getting rid of a lot of things. I'm someone who is easily distracted by visual clutter, and I work at home a lot, so I need my home to be relatively clutter-free. My work also takes quite a bit of willpower, so by owning less clothes and other items that I use daily, it's easier for me to make quick decisions that don't sap my willpower later. Also, owning less makes it harder to lose things, so when I need to run out the door quickly, I'm not searching for keys or my wallet (which could vanish since I carry them in different bags depending on the destination), so it eliminated that stress as well. I wouldn't say it lowers my work or school stress directly, but it has an indirectly positive effect by streamlining parts of my life that I don't want to waste time and willpower on.

As a disclaimer in case you didn't read my earlier post, I'm not a minimalist. I just like applying some of their values to my own way of life. I own a lot of things compared to minimalists, but I've recently cut my belongings in half and I'm loving it. Hope to get rid of a little more, but my anime figure collection stays lol. (Actually if I didn't collect anime merch and video games, I might have few enough things to be considered minimalistic...)

I don't understand buying a big house. As in a suburban house. I've lived in one, since my parents own one, and have already done a life times share of yard work, maintenance etc. Why would anyone volunteer for it? I want that time and money for shit I actually enjoy.

Yes, I get that my parents got the house, cause they have two kids and a bunch of dogs, so they needed the space. My brother who never wants kids on account of hating them, plans on getting such a house. It's ridiculous, he doesn't need one.

I'm not actually practicing minimalist living. I'm just broke, and prefer to use whatever money I do have on books and gaming.

Good guess. It's the Flintstones (2016), It's pretty good actually. It makes societal and political commentary. The two characters bottom panel on the far right are middle school aged Pebbles and Bam Bam.

Need or want? Why should we only do/buy what we need?

Maybe because I'm a selective person, but my room isn't filled with useless stuff. I know what I like and I love it, so I buy things related to that - plushies, band merch, books. The more the merrier, but already I have a built-in filter.

Oh, I'm not the one who cleans it, nor did I, apart from my room. I only go there twice a month or so.

I don't even know where most of the stuff are located in there. The excess just looks needlessly unnecessary for me(to get an image, there are four cabinets for footwear alone).

I live with my mother. At least, I will for the next year. And where I live for some reason there's always dust getting into the apartment, and my mom likes to have everything clean, and so do I.
The problem is the amount of things i have to take from the shelfs to clean it.
